how long do you wait for a response?

ugh, I interviewed for an apprentice position at the beginning of June and they told me that I'd know by the end of June if I got it or not. They also said that they notify you if you've been eliminated from consideration, and I've gotten no notification yet, so I'll take that as a good sign. But still, it now being July and not being notified either way is starting to scare me and the suspense of not knowing is KILLING ME!

Just got a letter from a regional theatre with the "Thank you for submitting your resume.  At this time we are fully staffed but will keep your resume on file for future seasons..."  Only problem - I think the last time I sent them my resume was 2 years ago!   No date on the letter (has it been floating around the post office for the last 23 months?) but it was personalized to me so someone took some effort...  I'm guessing a new PSM inherited a stack of resumes and just sent letters to everyone, but it made me laugh.

I'm going through this right now . . .I interviewed and was told it would be at least two weeks before I heard anything, that two weeks has come and gone and I have followed up with phone calls and have not received a response.  It's a shame . . .I really wanted that job . . .but you never know . . .23 months from now I might get the rejection letter or I might get called in for the next round of interviews tomorrow.  In the meantime, life goes on.

I think the most annoying time I ever had was two summers ago when I was moving to NY.  I got a call from somebody at the Lincoln Center Festival in response to a resume I had submitted for an opening they had that summer.  I missed the call due to being in a dentist's chair, but returned it about an hour later.  The person wasn't in the office.  I left a voicemail.  A day went by, I didn't hear anything back.  I ended up attempting to return this person's call about once a day for a good ten days.  Finally the secretary who I kept getting told me that her boss had asked her to let me know the position was filled.

I understand being busy and I'm well used to not hearing anything back, but something about the fact that they DID initiate contact and then ignored me because I wasn't available to take their call at the exact moment really got under my skin.

I know that is frustrating . . . but sometimes, the first person to answer the phone is the person who gets the job.

I do understand that part as well.  If they had told me that the position was filled after the first or second time that I called back I would have been fine.  It was the length of time that the game went on that really got me.

All in all that situation worked out for the best, as I was able to pick up a couple of show cases during that time that allowed me to make a few good contacts in the city.
