SETC
« on: Nov 13, 2008, 02:27 pm »
I wasn't able to find a thread on it, but since it's less than four months away, I have a few questions for it, since this will be my first time interviewing/auditioning outside of an academic setting. I was mainly wondering if there are some questions I should know the answer to, walking into it:

I know there probably are a few standard questions they ask, and I would like to have some kind of answer ready, so I'm not wasting interview time thinking on it.

Also, I am taking my current show prompt book with me as a "resume," along with a true resume. I also see some sites want a picture as well. Should I be ready with a few, in case they ask for one there?

Also, I am in a bit of a scheduling challenge. My fiance and I are planning a wedding, and I am trying to stay local-ish(like a 6 hour drive or less) so I can come home occasionally when I am free to help plan some things.  He is in the NAVY, so it's pretty much me and the mothers.  I was just wondering what co. I should maybe target to get interviews with, that are good for a summerstock/fall season position.

Thanks so much.

Unless you are planning to audition for acting parts at SETC, you won't need a photo.  Photos I believe are only for actors resumes.

Congratulations!  As far as what companies are good summerstock: in most cases summerstock is summerstock is summerstock.  I would just focus on trying to find one as close to your location as you can.

Most of my mentors have told me to only prepare pictures for two reasons:

1) You either helped design or build part of the final project

2) Some companies think it is helpful to know what kind of show you SM-d for.  For example, you could have SM-d Les Miz, but it was for a community theatre so you only had 5 cubes to make the set and your cast was a fourth of the size.  If you had production pictures, you could show the quality of the production you SM'd.  Because, let's face it, the size and quality of the production often dictates how difficult/demanding/professional the management gig will be.
Theatre is nothing if not spontaneous. The novel can be put away, taken up, reread. Not theatre. It keeps slipping between one's fingers. Its permanent features such as scenery, script, etc. are not more theatre than two poles of a generator are electricity.
