So I did some number crunching. The final match went to Paper by one vote and due to our structure of tournament-style this means that it technically won. However, if you look at all of the votes awarded over the course of the entire tournament it lost the popular vote to laptop by a landslide. In case you were curious about how the board ranked all 32 items based on total cumulative votes, here's the list.

Laptop                160
Paper                137
Headset                118

And, I think that's actually very fair. Both tools are very popular, and both tools win.  You know, paper isn't just the past, and the laptop isn't just the future. They both exist here and now, and we've all learned to make the two tools collaborate well, and to our benefit.  I think this poll had the best results possible, in all regards!

I think the top 6 vote-getters say a lot about the ways in which the job of the SM is standard across artistic disciplines. Even though many of the tools are used differently in dance vs drama vs opera, and some are more crucial in one than the other, we all value those 6 basic tools over everything else.
[The SM is] a very gifted, slightly eccentric master mechanic [keeping] a cantankerous, highly complex machine running at top efficiency by talking to it, soothing it, & lovingly fixing whatever is broken.

See?? The electoral college is to blame! Laptop won the popular vote but because of gerrymandered districts, paper comes out with a win!!!

The Supreme Court will hear of this!

I didn't realized how much I missed this until you posted about silliness in the intro thread.

Maybe a bi-annual tournament? Seeding to be voted on by members in the months leading up to it so we may avoid the gerrymandered pro paper party?

;)

I thought about doing another run this year but couldn't quite figure how to change it up.
