Transferring colleges
« on: Dec 31, 2010, 11:35 am »
Hello everyone,

I am a freshman at Wayne State University in Detroit in the design/tech program with a concentration in Stage Management. I was on stage during high school because we never had anyone close to a SM, but I knew that I really wanted to try it and so chose WSU for college. The program is pretty good, I'm gaining a lot of experience. By the end of this year I will have SM'ed two shows and ASM'ed one. I know that I want to go to school for Stage Management, and don't have any questions about that. I do like my program and think its good, but I don't really care for the school itself, and am looking into transferring come this fall. I have no idea where to transfer to though. I'll have done a few shows by the end of this year, but I don't know if that will be enough to transfer to a good school. What I'm looking for is a school with a good program, but also one with some sort of college life. I don't know if that is too vague or not, but any little bit of information helps.

Thanks,
Mike  :)

Here's the thing - there is no magical program for stage manage that is best for everyone.  It just doesn't work like that.

Posting something like you post will get a score of post saying "I like my program" post, which is great, and I am sure a lot of people like their programs, hell, I like my programs.

But, you need to find the program that works for you - and it's a complicated formula . . . I am sending you a repost of a very long e-mail I posted - and some personal advice - but read some of the posts.
