I have no doubt Baylor's program has gotten better. I attended the program for stage management, and when I left, found out a world of things important to the job that were never mentioned or taught there - it was a bit of a culture shock! Mr. Sherry and Sally are fantastic, learn everything you can from them!

Personally, I have met a lot of UT grads in the real world - none from Baylor, lots from SMU as well :)

oh i completely agree with you.... the stage management is something that is a new development.... i dont know how long ago if you were here... but Donald Fox is no longer employed by BUT, due to the fact that he offers nothing to students.  But we have a large staff of design faculty now, but i have heard stories from the past.

I was there from '96-'02. The design faculty is excellent, and Donald Fox wasn't there when I was. I think I was one of the first people there with SM "emphasis". The program offers extensive hands-on experience. What I missed there was working in a rehearsal space and prepping it, working with a production manager and shop supervisors (since almost everything goes through the TD there) and we never discussed or tried the implementation AEA rules. Paperwork was pretty misguided at the time as well. I am available to you if you ever have questions:)

ok. i'm brand new to this. but i have to offer an alternative perspective. in sherman, tx there is a small liberal arts school named austin college. an sm degree doesn't exist. BUT- it's so small you will work on every show you want to work on. and you can very easily create the major for yourself. it's an awesome school regardless of your major, but the theatre dept offers opportunities from your first day on campus.

Hello, I live in Texas too, and while I personally want to get the hell out of here when I graduate, I do know of some good colleges here. One of our directors at school is a recent graduate from Baylor and she loved it! Anytime we start on a college talk she always mentions Baylor. Another good school is TWU (Texas Women's University). Don't worry, it's a coed college now, but my other director just got her MFA there. It's smaller but the theatre space on campus and great and Denton is only about 45 minutes away from Dallas, so theres that.
