Mac users-- cool application for use backstage
« on: May 28, 2008, 10:29 pm »
I tend to use my macbook backstage during the show to get a jump on the report, etc, but I always turn the brightness down because it puts off so much light and can blind me if I stare at it too much and then walk into a dark corner of the deck.
Recently an actor saw me adjusting the brightness of my screen and recommended this cool mac application called Nocturne.  It inverts the colors of the screen so whites turn black and vice versa.  This is perfect for me!  I thought I'd share it with you all. :)

Command, Option, Control, 8

All the same time does the same thing...

Oh, not at all.  Nocturne just takes that feature and makes it more customizable.  It's a pretty cool little app-- but if you don't need the bells and whistles, then yes, cmd+opt+ctrl+8 will achieve a similar result. :)

The website says it adds the following:

Proper color correction in monochrome modes
you don’t lose all your blues or reds when you tint the screen.

Window shadow toggling
if glowing windows aren’t your thing.

Background removal
hide the desktop picture so you don’t see a inverted version.

All pretty handy!

And if you cant download the application or whatever... if you go to system preferences, then click on Universal access and shift the display to white on black it does essentially the same thing. But when I'm using a laptop backstage I generally just have a multitude of excel sheets, so its already pretty much black and white.

This is sweet, I can finally take pictures without the blue light of the screen reflecting off my glasses!

This is also better for the environment since it takes less energy for the computer to produce black and darker colours as opposed to white/light colours. Google picked up on this and made a search engine like that has white on black.

Yeah but once you steer away from the search engine you're back in the same problem :)
