PROP: Ten Little Indian Dolls
« on: Aug 28, 2012, 04:12 pm »
Hi,

The next show I am SMing at my school is 'And Then There Were None'

The show is extremely prop heavy, but by far the most difficult props to find are the ten little indian figurines.

Do any of you know of any website that might rent or sell them? I have checked google, eBay, and craigslist, but came up empty.

Price is not really an issue, we have a large budget.

If you could not by them, has anyone created your own Indian figurines for the show?

Any tips on how to make them would be appreciated!

Thank you

I don't know the show, is there anything special about the dolls other than (I'm assuming) that they need to be in Native American clothing?

The dolls need to be able to stand on their own and not be too tall, I would say under 10 inches

In the script, one of the dolls break. So they would need to be made of porcelain root an equivalent material

The play is just a more politically correct name for Ten Little Indians by Agatha Christe

Thanks

Maybe the Dollar Store would have some porcelain figures that you could paint white as a base, then add doll's clothing (or even paint the clothing and other detail).

I did this show in high school, many moons ago. Our director went to the local ceramics store and bought Indian statues and then our props people painted them. We did not fire them to make them shiny or anything fancy. We bought extra of course and a few of them we broke carefully and lightly re glued. Then when they were knocked off the mantle during the show they would break, otherwise they were too sturdy to break just from falling. There were enough that we each got one as a gift at the closing party and I still have mine in my office. If you do not have a local ceramics store maybe you could try looking online.

The show just closed and I want to thank you all for the help once again.

In the end we just went to a ceramics store as they were putting up their halloween/thanksgiving goods up and we bought cheap "Thanksgiving Indians, pumpkins and all." They did the job

Thanks!
