Prop: getting hit with a vase
« on: Sep 07, 2011, 01:49 am »
Hello!  We have a scene where our lead is hit over the head with a vase and he's knocked unconscious.  The director is fine with the vase not breaking (can't afford breakable vases), so I need something that looks relatively French circa 1800's (not specified) that a man can be hit with and not hurt.  Found a few rubber vases online but they all look pretty modern.  Any ideas?

There's a fun little housewares company called Fred that does lots of traditional items in nontraditional materials...not sure if they'd have what you're looking for, but a quick google pulls up their catalog site:

I also wonder if Etsy would be helpful.
I personally would like to bring a tortoise onto the stage, turn it into a racehorse, then into a hat, a song, a dragon and a fountain of water. One can dare anything in the theatre and it is the place where one dares the least. -Ionesco

In my current show, we have a lovely statue carved out dense foam, then painted . . . looks amazingly like marble.

Might be easy to craft something . . .
