"Some companies will also personalize regular wooden, sharpenable pencils for you. My main pencil-related grievance is the phenomenon of beginning rehearsal with a pack of 24 new pencils, and having them all vanish by the end of the first week. Having pencils that say "Please return to..." would help. Somewhat, at least."
I mark all of my pencils with a small bit of spike tape at the end. I even color code them - right now its red for normal #2 pencils for the actors, orange for my #3s. This way, even if an actor walks away with a pencil in their bag, I can collect at the end of the next day with a clear conscience. And I can easily see which type of pencil I grab, without having to examine the little imprint at the end.
And I'm not wasting valuable spike tape here - I use the small rolls that are too little to tape out with anymore. Its a way to use the spike tape to the bitter end.
