EDITING: Progam to edit sound effects?
« on: Jan 10, 2010, 03:05 pm »
Hey everyone.

Just wondering if anyone knows of a free program or cheap program that will edit sound effects (chop them, put them together with another sound effect, etc.)

Thanks in advance :)

For basic sound editing, Garageband, which comes packaged with all macs works really well.  If you don't have a mac, Audacity, a free program that works pretty well for basic editing would be a good choice.

I'll second the vote for Garage Band.  Used it a couple of times for work applications.  Depending on your experience with other editors, you may find it a little clunky, but it gets the job done and is very intuitive.

SM19, perhaps you could clarify what type of machine will use this software?  This will help narrow the recommendations to only those that will actually work for you!

For PC-based systems, I like MAGIX Audio Cleaning Lab--current version is about $50, but well-worth the money.  Especially if you are using old recordings or have a ground hum through your board when you do a live recording, it will clean most of the noise up.

I'm flattered, but the answer is still no.

To edit one sound audacity is the best. It is very simple and works very well

Final Cut Pro also works well for putting different sounds together. i.e. putting a fog horn on top of seagulls cawing. But not cheap

I say go with audacity. For running the sound, qlab is the one to go with
Standby. And 3..2..1

I use a free program that I downloaded for PC's called wavepad. It is a very simple program, but works well for cutting and recording rehearsal tracks, etc. I have used it for recording the orchestra live for dance practice cds.

I believe there is an option to upgrade as well, but I'm just using it for the most basic things.
