Box Office Software
« on: Oct 31, 2007, 10:33 pm »
I have been hired as a stage manager and box office manager...and instead of useing the company's  "just print some tickets and keep track of them" I want something that will do it for me.   Any advice would be great.   Thanks!

We use Choice (http://www.choiceticketing.com/), but that would also be a sizable investment.  Is the company willing to pay for a better ticketing system?

Tessitura seems to be ubiquitous these days.

I am against WinTix, but my old theatre uses ProVenueMax, again another sizeable investment.

I think that most of the actual box office ticketing programs you are going to find out there are going to be expensive. What about asking some other smallish theatres in the area what they use?

Thanks for the suggestions.

Because we currently don't have a "home" (its being renovated) someone would make tickets In Word, but now that we are moving in in a few months it is my job to find a ticketing system.  I think that we are going to go with etix the board of directors likes the price and that they are a local company.  But thanks again!

Apparently we just started using a system from sellingticket.com.

The online interface is a tad cheesy, but we have not had any problems with reservations that I am aware of.

Click on the marquee logo to the right of your screen.

Whatever you do, do not use Box Office For Windows (aka. BOW) - our university just bought it and it is all levels of hell, and the "help" book is useful (ie: if something goes wrong, they suggest the following "fire the person"). Not very helpful!

Tessitura is close to being the bar-none for larger theaters. It also tracks donors and giving as well as ticket buyers. It is a large, powerful program that is really great. But I wouldn't recommend getting it unless the theater is ready to put the staff through training to use the system well, and ready to hire at least 1 full-time staff to support the IT side of the system.

I used Max Tix once and it was pretty simple--not a great way for dealing with subscriptions, though...

I know my venue uses TicketForce, though I really know nothing about it.  I'm strictly backstage.

We use Vendini and have been very happy with it. The initial cost is a bit pricey but the ultimate result is a very professional easily managed ticketing system. newbielink:http://www.vendini.com [nonactive]

I am against WinTix

I still have nightmares of when I used WinTix at a previous theatre...

In addition to stage managing, I also work in the box office at a performing arts center in town. We use AudienceView. It is a very powerful box office software and you can run every report under the sun. It's a little complicated for our facility as it is a visual arts center and a science center and a cinedome theater as well. It's also quite the hefty investment, but I figured it might help.
