Umm, that's not my name.
« on: Feb 18, 2016, 05:17 pm »
Has anyone received an agreement that did not have you AEA name on it? I joined before I was married, so my AEA name is my maiden name, which is the name on my resume as well. However, my email address includes my married name, so I can see where it can be confusing. While I'm waiting to hear back from the producer about my name on the agreement, I wondered if anyone has come across trouble with AEA/legal names being different.

That happened to me recently - I asked for the contract to be re-issued in my AEA name and they quickly made the correction.  It was interesting because one of the employee forms asks specifically for AEA name vs legal name.

When I've received a contract with the wrong name, I just cross it out and correct it in every instance on the contract, then sign it the hand-revised contract.  Then follow-up with company management / press to make sure I am billed correctly.

This happens to me rather frequently.  I go by "Maggie" but my legal and AEA name is "Margaret" and people tend to forget about nicknames.  At least once a year I get someone who puts Maggie on a document, whether it's my contract, paycheck, or the program.  I usually include the distinction in any initial emails or contact about paperwork, even if they don't ask for it.  If it happens anyway, I always point out the error and ask for it to be corrected as soon as possible.  I tell people "it's Margaret on paper and Maggie in person."
I like the ephemeral thing about theatre, every performance is like a ghost - it's there and then it's gone. -Maggie Smith

Thanks for your comments. It was an easy fix of course. Onwards to rehearsal!
