Need a doctor in NYC
« on: Jan 13, 2008, 07:37 pm »
Not sure if this is quite the right spot for this, but:

I find myself quite sick and living here in NYC without a doctor nearby. My primary care is in Phila and if I do not improve in the next 24 hrs would be in need of a doctor. I have my healthcare through Equity.

Can anyone in NY make a  recommendation, please? Someone had suggested the Hirshfeld clinic, but I don't think I qualify as underinsured?

If your insurance is an HMO and your primary care Dr is not in town, you will need to go to an emergency room in order to be covered.

Unfortunately, I have had some experience with this.

I believe you can go to cigna's website (or call the number on the back of your card) and pick pick someone that way.  Be sure to confirm when you make your appointment that they still take your insurance.

I found my DR this way.  He is not stellar but he had appointments available.  PM me if you want his details.

Thanks for the advice.

I know how to find a doctor, I was just asking if someone had a doctor that perhaps they loved and would recommend is all.

Perhaps information too late, but just got an email about this so figure I'd pass it on...

The NY Stage Managers Unofficial Health Directory: http://www.ahirc.org/PDF/NYStageManagersHealthDirectory.pdf
(takes a little while to download as it is 166 pages, but hardcopies are available at the Actors' Fund Office.)
"With funding from Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, the different lists used by Stage Managers of every Broadway house were collected. Each health care provider was then contacted, invited to participate in the project, and asked to provide the information contained in this directory, including office location, hours, fees, participation
in health insurance plans, availability for emergency situations and/or backstage visits, and willingness to offer performers and theatre personnel fast appointments and expedited follow-up. The Actors’ Fund has not independently verified the accuracy of the information or the qualifications of the listed providers."

Wow - what a great resource. Cirque keeps records for each city they are in of docotrs and specialists....all over the world. i am certain other companies do too. If only we could put something like this together. It would be great to know when you bump your head in Mannheim Germany that there was a doctor nearby that understood performing gigs....Just as an example.  ;) - D
