Even if you aren't a member of Equity, please take a little time to research and to understand why unions are so important to labor in our country, and why these current union-busting measures are an assault on the middle class.

Perhaps you've been lucky and have been able to work at a LORT theatre as a non-Eq ASM for a living wage - but you are benefitting from the union: there are safe and sanitary conditions you get to benefit from (ie, OSHA regulations); they probably don't work you much (if at all) beyond what they'd work an Equity ASM so you benefit from negotiated work hours; you are covered by worker's comp if you get injured at the workplace - all thanks to unions.  And then there are the benefits that, while maybe not started by a union, were created because people were more aware of workers rights because of unions, like FMLA & unemployment insurance.

I understand that "going Equity" may not be right for every person depending on their situation...  But unions have done much to create working standards in this country... Please come out to support the idea that every worker should have: *safe/sanitary working conditions, *be paid a living wage, * earn health insurance, * be supported in retirement, * have a standard work week, vacation and sick leave, * most importantly, most vulnerable - be allowed collective bargaining rights (ie, allow the little people to get together to have 1 strong voice).

Perhaps you look at this current battle and think "I'm not union, it doesn't effect me..."  If you need a reason to care, think of a teacher who inspired you, who told you it was ok to go into some crazy profession like the arts, who made you feel strong and confident, who provided a safe environment for you to grow and learn...  That teacher is directly affected by this campaign...  And unfortunately, due to fear of retribution, many of those teachers are feeling forced into silence.  Please, stand up and be a voice for them.
