ARTICLE: Fighting with Teenagers - a copyright story

from Jason Robert Browne's blog about trading sheet music . . .

http://jasonrobertbrown.com/2010/06/29/fighting-with-teenagers-a-copyright-story/

It's an interesting perspective on a hot topic.

Should be zero debate on this topic. Period. You don't pay for it, you don't "deserve it." Have I done it? Yes as a product of my generation I've stolen music while in college.

Since then, I've gone back and purchased everything I took or deleted those files and ripped my own collection of CDs to replace it.

Read the whole thing! Wow, I think for me it's easy to stick a song from the library through the copy machine for an audition/talent show and not think about how it effects the person who wrote it. Never again. It might be too late for Brenna, but not for me. From now on I'm going to go the extra mile to make sure that the artists who created these songs/scripts that we enjoy get their fair share. Thanks for sharing! It was very eye opening. :)

But, I think there is a bigger picture to this . . . all of the comments on the blog are true.

But, it's about putting a value on the things we create, the work we do.

It's so hard to read some of that, but it reminds you of the battle we face. It would be great if every person involved in any kind of art form could just stop for a week, month, year, so people could truly see what they will be missing when we are no longer able to work. No new movies, or songs by pop artists, or shows, and all of the jobs not just "artistic", but everyone from management to custodial staff that would be out of work. This is why we need to be paid people...
