What's on your screen?
« on: Jul 28, 2010, 01:45 pm »
So, I've recently found that one of the best ways to help me unwind after a long day of managing stages is to come home and catch up on a bit of television. This habit started when I got hooked on The Big Bang Theory during the rehearsals for Women of Lockerbie, when I really just needed something to come home to that was mindless and silly.

So I'm curious - what's on your screen? What shows do you follow? What can you recommend?

My current "subscription" of shows includes...
- Lie To Me ( ❤ Tim Roth! ❤)
- True Blood (the guilty pleasure.)
- Community (more mindless silliness)
- Doctor Who (...still missing David Tennant.  :( )
- Deadliest Catch (R.I.P. Phil Harris)
- V (still catching up on this one)
- Frasier (it's a classic! I still watch the reruns)

Love The Big Bang Theory when I can catch it.
If I ever get a chance for TV:
Mythbusters
Eureka
Stargate (movies, SG1, Atlantis, or Universe)
Daily Show
Colbert Report
Supernatural (I just catch it every once in a while and get pulled in)
Any made-for-TV-scifi-flick on the syfy channel.
Metalocalypse, Robot Chicken, and the occasional Anime on Adult Swim.

To add: any movies that are out/coming out that people are dying to see?
Personally, I cannot wait for the next group of DC Comics movies and Tron.

The Big Bang Theory is fantastic! And I'm just enough of a media/comic-nerd to at least follow along with the references.

Can't go wrong with Mythbusters & Robot Chicken!

As for new movies : I highly recommend Inception! In my eyes, all that Nolan touches is gold. (Love The Prestige, Memento, and the Batman movies).

Upcoming movies...while still aways away, I'm super excited about the Marvel movies coming out (Thor, Captain America, The Avengers). Still not sure what to make of the casting choices but..hey, Heath Ledger surprised me as the Joker. I guess I'll reserve judgement till I see it!

I was telling a friend of mine the other day that I really, really wished I was in on the Tron stuffs because all my friends that watched Tron as kids are insanely excited about the new movie. It does look really good. And gotta love Jeff Bridges.

We've been using Netflix's online services lately, and I'm sad to say that I've been slowly working my way through all seasons of South Park. When you just want to tune out, that does the job!

Currently on TV: Hell's Kitchen, Master Chef, Modern Family, The Middle and Cougar Town. Oh, and Glee when it's a good episode.

I'm going way back: The Prisoner, when I watch TV. I'm about halfway through the first series, and fully hooked.

I have a hard time following TV shows, but my must-watch includes Mad Men and Top Chef. Always.

I also got Netflix instead of cable, which means I'm watching a bunch of older shows. Skins and Pushing Daisies are recent finds, and if I feel like watching shows about theater, Slings and Arrows. (Favorite recent quote: "Can you stop being a stage manager for FIVE MINUTES?!" "I CAAAAAAN'T!")
I personally would like to bring a tortoise onto the stage, turn it into a racehorse, then into a hat, a song, a dragon and a fountain of water. One can dare anything in the theatre and it is the place where one dares the least. -Ionesco

I also caught Slings and Arrows. I thought the stage manager's drunken rant to the actors was on the money :)
