Trivia Tournament II: Electric Boogaloo
« on: Oct 03, 2008, 12:49 am »
The last trivia thread was getting rather long and unwieldy.  Time for a fresh one, I think.

If you're new to SMNet, here's the instructions for playing trivia:

To play, Click here.

You'll need to register over there so we can track you in the standings.  Please use the same username there as you use here.  (If you're playing in other funtrivia tournaments and would rather use your funtrivia username, just send me a PM to let me know.)

To register, you will need the tournament password.   Use the same password as you use for the SMNetwork resume browser.  The one that starts with the letter f.  The password is visible on the main page of smnetwork in the descriptive text of a forum that is visible only to registered, logged in members.  Please do not PM the password or post the password publicly.  The hints that have been given so far in this post should be more than sufficient for figuring it out.  The trivia tournament is TOUGH and figuring out the password is meant as a warm-up for you.

There's a different set of questions every day of the week.  Topics are chosen by either the 1st, 2nd or 3rd place winner each month depending on who is the most recent newcomer to the top 3.

In addition to the SMNetwork private tournament listed above, we've also got a team on the global funtrivia site to pit our trivia skills against the general public.  It's team #13380.  To join the global stage management team, you'll need an account at the global funtrivia.com site.  (Your account for the private tournament won't work for this part.)  Once you've registered, head to http://www.funtrivia.com/friends.cfm?action=join and join up!

In the Trivia Quiz I took today, Oct 8, titled ANIMALS a question was "What do you call the act of removing the fins from sharks and then throwing them overboard to die, called?" I submit that act is dismemberment, not some fancy term "finning." Dismemberment.

For the public trivia game a minimum of 7 players must play in order for scores to be posted. GO TEAM!

Religion 1 - Wednesday
Science & Technology 2 - Thursday

Oh dear, I suspect I may have thrown a spanner in the works by picking General Knowledge 3 for Monday, after last month we had it on Sunday. At any rate, FunTrivia thinks I've already played today's (Monday) game, when it was actually yesterday (Sunday). Sorry !

I love these little contests but I seem to suck at them!

Is there any way to play but not register your score?
Many times I am extremely embarrassed at how well, (right), I do...

Please, oh please...

Awww, Vernon! You do just fine! Did you ever get a scrolling mouse?  It's much faster than a trackpad.  And remember, don't ever read the entire question and try to make sense of it.  Look for keywords/names/concepts and click an answer that relates to them.  And, most importantly, the less you care about your score, the better you'll do!!

See you tomorrow at the TYA table!!

My favorite question of today (without giving too much away) actually asked about what a specific commercial advertised.  Of course, the commercial ran in another country when I was 6 years old.

Yup, missed that one!
