Snowed in in the South
« on: Jan 11, 2011, 01:26 pm »
Or... you could get snowed in for two days, and after having done all the housework on day one, settle into pre-prod paperwork for your next show on day two.

I'm stuck in the ice down south.  Can't even get down my driveway; I'm going stir crazy.  Hello, next show, two weeks early!

LOL...I only missed one day of work from the snow storm here in south western North Carolina (hooray for Subaru all-wheel drive!).  But the schools here have been cancelled possibly for the whole week - we're in the mountains so if you don't live in town you are stuck.

Charlotte NC is crippled too with a thick layer of ice over the roads and the remaining snow. Thankfully my son's daycare is open for a few hours today - we all had a serious case of cabin fever and were on each other's nerves. I've gotten no work done in the past few days <sigh>

I'm in Boston and we cancelled our opening night show for the night.  I have tons of computer work I should be doing, but my husband has a snow day too and it's hard to focus.  It's developing into a wine and movie day, watching the dog play in the snow.

Shoot I'm north of Boston and getting ready to start a 2:00p Matinee for a handful of people! (Personally I don't agree, but I'm not the boss...)  let alone not canceling our evening show.

Update: at 2:04 with only 2 people in the house we decided to cancel.  But those two are currently eating pizza with the cast and are getting a personal tour backstage, so I guess it is not a complete waste of their afternoon.

I've been fortunate to be able to get around and to/from work in the weather, and have had all my actors arrive (relatively) on time.

We did have to move the weekly rugby workouts indoors- didn't seem fair to make them run around in the cold and wind and snow.
I personally would like to bring a tortoise onto the stage, turn it into a racehorse, then into a hat, a song, a dragon and a fountain of water. One can dare anything in the theatre and it is the place where one dares the least. -Ionesco

We had to postpone the first read-through of our season opener a day and a half because at least two of our cast members were having a sleepover in the Atlanta airport and couldn't get a new flight to Northeast TN. Back in December, we had a whole mess of snow dump on us resulting in seven canceled shows. Six of those were school matinees where every single one of the schools slated to attend were closed, but one show was canceled because a tree fell into a powerline directly behind the theatre, knocking out power to half the town. Hard to do a show that relies heavily on an electric motor to rotate the stage when there's no juice in the entire building (plus no lights). But the crew was able to hang out in the greenroom all afternoon and watch the tree smoke, burn, and arc. We ordered a pizza and watched the firemen and power company fix things.

And now on my fourth snow day that my day job isn't open.  Prelim paperwork for this next show will be gorgeous!

I actually went by my place of employment, yesterday, to retrieve my car from where it had been stranded at a friend's place.  Roads were okay on the way in, while the sun was up, but as soon as it got dark, everything turned back to ice, again.  I only slid once.  Only a few inches.  Didn't hit anything.  Was grateful I spent college driving up and down snow covered, windy mountain roads!
On my fourth snow day, I'm going to run a few errands, while there's light and warmth, do some yoga, and do some more paperwork!

In Dallas right now.  The roads have about 2-3 inches of ice and it is supposed to start snowing again in about an hour.  We had to cancel our final dress, opening night (tonight) and tomorrow night's show.  First time I have ever been involved in a cancelled performance.

My husband and I have spent the week off painting our house.
