Happens to the best of the best. On my tour we had 2 cast members go down for our production of R+J which triggered a series of covers which brought our company manager onto the stage and into an equity contract for the week. It was an exciting performance to say the least.

My favorite part about those performances is seeing the cast's interest resparked in the show. After 50 performances in 20 cities attention spans wane and they spent their off time in dressing rooms/green rooms. Almost no one left the deck. They wanted to be there to get the new feel of the show and support their cast mates as they plunged into new tracks.

and here is a not-understudy working magic, allowing the show to go on!

My friend Victor was one of the folks split-tracked for those performances....I heard it was quite exciting!  :)
I personally would like to bring a tortoise onto the stage, turn it into a racehorse, then into a hat, a song, a dragon and a fountain of water. One can dare anything in the theatre and it is the place where one dares the least. -Ionesco

A reminder to always take understudy rehearsals seriously!  You may need to put someone in without the benefit of any rehearsal time.

One of the great charms of live performance.  Nothing like this happens on the silver screen.

Get action. Do things; be sane; don’t fritter away your time; create, act, take a place wherever you are and be somebody; get action. -T. Roosevelt

Victor was one of my students. It is such a small world!!
