Happiness is...

Sure, a lot of these boards are complaining and problem solving, but what about the good stuff?

Happiness is....

...hitting up the back-to-school sales at the office supply stores (I found 24 sharpies for $10! Packs of mechanical pencils for $1!)

...the first laugh on opening night.

...FINALLY going home after a full tech day.
I personally would like to bring a tortoise onto the stage, turn it into a racehorse, then into a hat, a song, a dragon and a fountain of water. One can dare anything in the theatre and it is the place where one dares the least. -Ionesco

Happiness is.....

.....having your lighting designer tell you that they've cut half of the cues.... or that they are now auto follows.

.....showing up to the theatre and having your crew already working on their preshow presets.

.....crossing something off your ever growing to do list... or deleting emails!

Happiness is ...

When you go to tell your ASM/Crew to do something and they tell you it is already done.

When the Producer and/or Director has your drink of choice ordered and waiting for you after the show since you of course are the last one to the bar/party.

The first time the crew completes a difficult cueing sequence/scene shift flawlessly.

Its the little things that make it all worth it. I could go on for ever...

Happiness is...

a day when no one complains.

finishing your last show of the week and walking out of the theater after a long week.

having an audience response that makes the cast crack up as much as the audience.

For me currently.  Happiness is...

Getting through an entire day without getting an "emergancy" text (they're never actually emergancies except for in his mind) from the director.

Getting to see a show as an audience member instead of having to call it.

...having a bad dream about tech and waking up, only to realize, you actually have a day off.

Happiness is...

... having an audience member ask how you did something (an effect or a killer scene change), and getting to reply "Theatre Magic"...

...when the crew chief (and two carpenters) offer to bring food back for you at dinner. For three days in a row. Love 'em.

...coming home from a horrible day and finding your roommate has bought you a bottle of your favorite drink.
...the feeling you get walking through a door labeled "Employees Only" at a theatre you've always wanted to work in.
...clean sheets.

Happiness is...

...when your ASM brings you coffee/tea the first day of tech.
...a director asks you a question, you answer, and they respond, "This is why I love you"
...someone brings you a bottle of wine for taking care of them and a need as an actor..
...an actor makes a coffee run on a break and brings you back a drink because he knows you don't really get a "break"

Happiness is...

...the director saying, "Bless you for being that part of my brain."

...an iron kettle full of freshly infused tea or tisane.

...having a great camaraderie with your ASM's.

...walking out of the theatre after the last performance (and/or strike), turning the lights off (except for the ghost light) and carrying the kit and the book out of the space and head home with that great sense of accomplishment that's one of those little rewards.
