I saw this on the new FB page "I bet we can find a million Theater people" quoted by the page's originator, Morgan Rusler -

My production manager once introduced me as the "theatre wizard" which pretty much says it all. I considered using that on business cards some day.

When I taught tech last summer, my kids called me Mary Poppins because I could pull anything out of my kit.  It's actually not a bad analogy for a stage manager.
[The SM is] a very gifted, slightly eccentric master mechanic [keeping] a cantankerous, highly complex machine running at top efficiency by talking to it, soothing it, & lovingly fixing whatever is broken.
