FACEWASH - clean up your facebook profile.
« on: Jan 27, 2013, 03:36 pm »
I found this app interesting - most of the offensive stuff came from comments people had posted about me . . . but a way to look over your facebook and possibly remove some offensive stuff.

Very interesting - I try to thwart a lot of issues by adding colleagues and coworkers on a very strict filter. Leaves them able to see what I choose to post, and keeps the networking avenues open.

I'm pretty clean! (They did flag a post I made about Alan Cumming, though.  ;))
I personally would like to bring a tortoise onto the stage, turn it into a racehorse, then into a hat, a song, a dragon and a fountain of water. One can dare anything in the theatre and it is the place where one dares the least. -Ionesco

Not bad but not fool-proof: it flagged my post about the Vagina Monologues (for obvious reason) and a page I liked about 'kinky' curly hair...not THAT kind of kinky.

Here's my question: if you're pretty diligent about keeping your wall set to Friends only and take a look at your profile periodically to see what it looks like in the Public setting, what employer is going to see it?

Given the size of this industry-- you might be "friends" with a potential employer or potential co-worker or potential boss...

I can see this being very useful for folks who are transitioning from a college lifestyle into a professional mindset.  Until recently, Facebook was at best negligent about privacy settings, though in my mind they've recently (past 1-2 years) tightened up to a point now where it's easy to filter who sees what.  Like NomieRae I've got my professional contacts grouped so they see none of my posts, photos, tagged anything, etc...  Further, nothing appears on my timeline until I approve it.  I've taken the stance the past few years that I won't post anything on social media I won't say to a room of 10,000 people.

It's funny, Google+ is exactly what I need in a social network, but nobody else uses it!

I fared pretty well.  I am a huge Dick Van Dyke fan, so it flagged every post about him :)

I was pretty clean for a current college student

The funny thing was that I participated in a couple of murder mysteries so everytime the word murder was mentioned it highlighted it lol

But otherwise I think I'm safe

Nothing really bad, but the word sexy shows up a lot...

I got flagged for "crack" up laughing, and photo "bomb" lol.

The worst that came up on mine was the mentions of post-show/day off drinks (it really assumes all mentions of beer and wine are bad), and a touch of off-color language, but nothing that I would be worried about or feel that I need to remove.  It also questioned a picture of a dinner I made because I used "mushrooms."

Wow, it picks interesting things as offensive. In addition to the ones cited above (and add in a few *marijuana* posts because I live in Colorado and it's sort of been in the news), it was offended by:
  • the mouse *sniffing* around my traps (but not taking the bait)
  • any of the *smoke* from all the wildfires (heck, I didn't like it either!)
  • our local folk music enclave, *Swallow* Hill Music
  • a band that plays *honkey*-tonk music
  • the poem Little Orphant Annie, talking about the two *big black* things a-standin' by her side

Mine had a couple of comments flagged due to conversations about gay marriage.

Which just made me think if I had made any political comments that could possibly put me in a bad light.

There were a few pictures of me working with a shadow cast version of Rocky Horror, which it flagged the comments on.  I completely forgot those were even online.

Thank you for this!  I've had a facebook since 2007, and I honestly can't remember what I've posted in the past.  I've attempted to clean it up multiple times, but this got all the things that fell through the cracks.

Cool!  My page was pretty clean... well, except for the honeymoon to Napa Valley where I posted about visiting wineries.
