Easiest Group of People to Work With?
« on: Nov 08, 2014, 07:39 pm »
So a couple of weeks ago I house/stage managed a poetry venue. It had a lot of good poets. Poets that have achieved more in their careers than most actors I've ever worked with.

The poets and I just got along so well. No egos. I was stressing out because things went too smoothly.

I would have never guessed or expected that.

Have you had any surprises?

I'm currently working with a kids ensemble of 20 in a musical. Other than the noise level raising during breaks, these kids are smart, funny, and professional. No one has made me want to tear my hair out.

The ensemble of 14 adults on the other hand are the handful!

I've found puppeteers are a mixed bag. Since they're so used to being self-sufficient, about 80% of them are the least demanding, easy-going, twisted, fun group to work with.

That other 20% though...

I'm always surprised when I work with kids. In general I found them to be the ones always on time, totally off book, and when rehearsing  they would always go 100%, even after explaining to them how they can just mark the scene.

However, their parents can be a different story..

I was downright terrified of dancers when I was called to ASM my university's dance show. (I thought they were strong, tiny people who knew exactly what they wanted.) But after going in and doing an ok job, I signed on to Stage Manage their next show. I get along fabulously with them and they always request me to come back!

I work with clowns. We're talking both circus-type clowns as well as actors who are highly trained in physical comedy. (I do Commedia, not circus. But we do have actors with Ringling training and circus backgrounds.)

They are some of the greatest people I've encountered. Hilarious, don't get frazzled easily, always very professional. And they spend their free time tumbling and doing acrobalance and tossing each other around, which is always fun to watch.

I've worked with all types of people of different colors, ages, backgrounds an professions when it comes to the stage but the EASIEST group, hands down: All male casts or crews!

Last year I worked with the worst most disrespectful people but 2015 is looking up! My Off-Broadway cast of 5 males and females was my favorite group. In February I did a festival of 4 males and they were so sweet, disciplined and focused. They were pure gentlemen and there was NO drama.

I am working with a all male crew now and I love it! Everything is so smooth, thorough and seamless They don't need to be directed for the most part, and the same deal as above!
