Rutgers - facilities?
« on: Mar 18, 2009, 09:24 am »
Hello!

I couldn't find a topic that discussed this, so pardon me if this might be repeat information... but I was accepted to Rutgers for this fall. I have yet to OFFICIALLY accept, and have to let them know soon. All in all, very excited!

Surprisingly, I was accepted without being required to visit the campus.  Although what I know of the reputation of the program as well as the success of the students speak highly for the program, can anyone who has attended/taught there provide some insight on the facilities, since I may not be able to visit before I give them my attendance confirmation?

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you!

before you accept, you should visit the campus and see how you feel there . . . Grad school is a little like a marriage . . . and you want to know what you are getting into.

I agree.  I was told I needed to let them know sooner rather than later. But I have to wait to hear from other schools. I'm in crunch right now...I don't want to lose my spot but I don't want to be pressured to say yes just  yet. It's a strange place for me to be in right now.........

You might want to contact the other schools you applied for and let them know you have been accepted by Rutgers and have been given a deadline.  By asking nicely, you might be able to see if their acceptance timeline would fall before you make a decision, or force them to make an offer sooner.

I was in a very similar situation, where my second choice school accepted me first - so I contact my first choice school, letting them know my situation.  They were extremely helpful, and within 24 hours, they made an offer to me.

Remember, as competitive as the schools are to get into, the schools are also competing to get the best students into their programs.

I just got accepted to Rutgers and accepted their offer - we might be classmates!

Anyway, I went to Rutgers and interviewed with Carol Thompson and got a tour of their facilities. They have a ginormous personal stock (they don't rent, everything their students make they save), a flexible black box space, a permanent procenium, a SM student office (with computer, fridge, large table and shelves), a great costume shop, a decent metal and wood shop. If you have some specific questions, please PM me, because otherwise I'll just ramble...

Thanks for all the responses! I have seen the facilities recently.  I am now officially class of 2012 :)  Very excited to attend in fall.
