making trees
« on: Jul 09, 2008, 01:52 am »
When we made tree stumps for the Wizard of Oz this past year, we used a wonderful plastic that none of us knows the name of. It was clear and came in a continuous sheet on a large roll. When subjected to a heat gun it melted into very tree-like ripples, and when cool, could be painted without any problem.

Now I have someone who wants me to build them an entire tree and I need to get ahold of some of this stuff. Does anybody know what it's called and where I can get it (or something similar) ?

We built an entire tree - but since it had to be weight-bearing and swingable, and have a hole in the top and an elf-hole we made it out of wood and concrete.. Then a finish that made it semi-glossy...  Lets just say demolishing it was a blast!

If you figure out what the product is, let me know!
