Last minute prop!?!?
« on: Apr 12, 2008, 02:28 pm »
Hey everyone,

Have just been gievn a last minute prop needed for a show; a basketball which needs to be attatched to a stick/cane of some description...

Am a bit lost on how I could do this!

Was wondering if anyone had any suggestions or ideas?

Thanks a lot,

Adam

Could you deflate the basketball, cut out a stick size hole, place the stick into the basketball, then reseal the ball? Cut some of the piece that you cut off originally and glue it back around the stick. Just an idea. No clue if it would work, but worth a try.
~pay it forward~

More information needed...  Describe the purpose/use of the basketball on a stick prop...
Does the stick need to insert into the ball?  if so, does it need to be an actual basketball?  or to just look like a basketball (eg. maybe paper-mache, which would be easy to insert a stick/cane into it)? How big (thick and long) does the stick need to be?  Does it need to support the weight of the ball?

If it doesn't need to insert...  Maybe a net of fishing-line or other line strong but near invisible thread that could hold the ball and tied under the stick - I'm picturing something like a hobo stick, with the ball hanging underneath...

Cheers for the suggestions!

Ended up doing similar to Here2serv said by deflating the ball, slicing a hole, insterting the stick into the ball and then we filled the ball with expanding foam to give it back the ball shape. Its not completely sherical anymore but its used in a silloutte so it's fine!

Cheers,

Adam :)
