Brand new and seeking help!
« on: Mar 26, 2007, 09:11 pm »
I have been involved in Theatre for almost my whole life. Usually it was on stage as a dancer. I have always loved musicals and plays, and when my High School was doing it's first production in years I wanted to be involved. Since I'm not the greatest actress in the world I took on the role of Stage Manager. It had to be one of the highlights of my life. So the next year I got the position again, and began to think why can't I turn what I'm passionate about into my career. Great idea right! Thing is I have no idea to go about it. If any of you have any advice please feel free to comment.

Theatre (in the managerial positions) is 5 parts who you know, 1 part good presentation, and 3 parts experiance.

Amdram is a good place to get the contacts and experiance - and college is another method.

Basically, want to make a career out of it, do as many shows as you can, and network.

HAHA, my story is kinda similar to yours. In my younger years, I was always acting on stage, then when I got to High School, I started to realize that I couldn't act. I still wanted to do something for the school show so I did stage crew for the last 2 years. Now, I've ASM'd for 2 shows outside school and I'm beginning to wonder if I could possibly make a career out of it since it's what I love to do.
