PAY: Touring Musical Rates
« on: Oct 19, 2009, 12:39 pm »
So I got pulled into a phenomenal play here in Los Angeles that has been picked up the AEG to go on a national tour next summer to several of their theatres  ;D Needless to say, I am quite excited. The play is going union. So my question has 2 parts 1) I am a non-union SM right now, so how do I go union and which union should I join? 2) What is the average union rate that I should charge for a touring theatre show? Of course they would pay for room/board and other personal expenses, can someone give me a ballpark as to what a union SM for a touring company would charge? Thanks for your help!  ::)

CONGRATULATIONS - You will be hired under a specific contract, so the minimums will be determined by that - and normally all living expenses are covered (with a few exceptions) - all the details are dependent on the contract but there are specific things we can help you research in terms of your show

feel free to share details so we can help you w specifics (there are a lot of LA-area SMs here), and call the AEA office here for further info.

;D ;D GREAT! Well the contract is still under works right now for the cast and production staff. The musical is called Phi'LA go to newbielink:http://www.philathemusical.com [nonactive] and check it out. This is a new play which has gotten some very good reviews and positive media publicity. The launching of this play was very timely due to the recent gang activity in Inglewood, CA. I love that this play has an impact and a message to send. It looks like AEG will be handling our tour next summer and there are talks that it will be headed for Broadway pretty soon.

Any insights or advice?  :)

CALL AEA - that's the first advice, and you need to do that - this may be a TYA, since it's a school show, and it may be a some other contract - please call the AEA office and ask who is handling this prodn, and then talk w them - the folks in LA are terrific, very supportive, and very helpful - website is actorsequity.org if you need to research anything yourself -
