PROPS- Cooked Goose
« on: Nov 11, 2012, 03:35 pm »
Hello All!

I am stage managing The Mystery of Edwin Drood, in which we need a cooked goose as a prop. It does not need to be edible but it does need to have the ability to be stabbed multiple times. What would you advise using to make this goose, without needing to have a new goose each night (11 shows)?

Thanks:)

Carve it out of foam!

It's time consuming and smells terrible. But you can make it any size, foam can take a stab, but you may need to do some general maintenance in terms of paint.

Just got back from a huge awards ceremony so sorry, didn't look this up - but I remember this discussion a few years ago, but with a turkey, I think - did you try a search on this site?

Yes I did. The turkey suggestions were good I am just concerned about needing it to withstand several stabbings. What type of foam would you suggest?

We just finished Drood in October. We carved a giant one out of foam and spray painted it brown. It worked really well except for the time the actor got a little carried away pulling the knife out and slice off the Goose's butt! But the audience laughed hysterically. We had to glue it back together. Foam is definitely the best way to go on this one. We researched dozens of props before deciding to carve one ourselves.
