PROPS: squibs
« on: Jul 11, 2007, 02:12 am »
I’m going to be stage-managing a play for the Edmonton fringe festival (in Edmonton AB Canada). And my director wants to use squibs, can anyone tell me what might be the easiest and cheapest to use?
thank you

IMHO, Le Maitre stage pyro is as good as it gets; probably not the cheapest, but their system is very safe, easy to use and as reliable as pyro can be.  I'm not entirely sure what you mean when you say "squib" but I'm sure you could find something appropriate in their pyro range.

What I mean when I say squibs is those packs of blood that can simulate bullet wounds.

Oops, my bad, that'll teach me to reply without fully knowing what I was talking about!  I guess it's a language thing, as I think of squibs as pyro (obviously!) and blood packs as blood bags!

Hi!  Please check regulations in Edmonton to see if you need someone with a pyro license to blow the squibs ... they are, indeed, considered pyro and have a small explosive component.  The wearer can suffer burns from them, so care must be taken.  Any local SPFX house should be able to start you in the right direction.  Is there a film 411 directory for Canada?  That would be a great place to start.

And all this conversation I kept thinking you were talking about wizards who couldn't perform any magic...

OH MY GOD IT WAS SO GOOD!  But that digresses from this topic so I'll have to think about starting a new one on the green room forum....
