PROPS: On stage with REAL food
« on: Apr 14, 2016, 04:09 pm »
We are doing the show Anything Goes and at one point whip cream is supposed to be thrown at an actor, but we worry that the whip cream will stain/smell etc. Any thoughts or ideas on how to fool the audience or how have you dealt with this problem before?

You might try doing a search for "food" in the search bar.....(upper right hand corner). We've touched on very similar topics a few times and those threads might be useful to you.

If at all possible, fake it.

If not, I've seen people use shaving cream on stage. It looks the same, but it is not as sweet, so it won't get sticky and attract bugs, and washes off easily.

If you do have to use real food, just make sure to clean everything really well after!

A national tour of the show in Australia last year used shaving foam (eight shows a week, over 120 performances total). Get the sensitive skin one if your actor either has sensitive skin or is just worried about how it will affect their skin.
