COMMUNICATION: Taking over a show
« on: Feb 23, 2007, 11:37 am »
I am about to take over calling a show.  I am currently composing a list of questions for the departing Stage Manager to make sure I get as much needed information out of her as possible.  Just wanted to pick the collective stage management brain:

Aside from having her explain her book/cues/notes/needs and quarks of the cast and crew, introduce me to the various scenic/sound/lighting/video/etc elements, give me keys/copy codes, and tell me how I go about getting batteries, what other questions should I ask?  What should I be on the look out for?

Emergency procedures - what you're responsible for in an evacuation/fire alarm/bomb threat/whatever.

You may be interested in reading this this topic about handing over a show.  It has some tips for the SM who is handing off the show, which you may find applicable.

Hi, Nora.  How did this end up going for you?  I'd be interested to hear about your progress since we last talked, especially since someone linked you to my post on a similar topic.  What have you learned about the takeover process from this experience?
