PEOPLE: Child Actors and Focus Issues
« on: Oct 30, 2015, 09:07 pm »
Hi All,

I'm working on a musical with a child actor who has played this role for many, many performances. She is coming to the end of her contract, and has started to do the role by rote. However, with more performances to go, we are doing everything we can to keep her engaged in the story she is telling. Has anyone had similar issues, and have suggestions on ways we can keep her engaged and focused? It is starting to have a negative impact on her fellow actors and the show as a whole.

So far, we have tried offstage focus techniques, such as mantras, fidget toys, mnemonics, acting games, and more. We also have weekly meetings to discuss what is happening in the show.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!
