I did a stage musical telling of the lat days of Marilyn Monroe with a cast of all drag queens. It was nearly impossible to get them onstage on time. I'm used to dancers walking around backstage in just a dance belt, but see the cast hang out wearing only a thin strip of duct tape (thats how the illusion is created) was a new one for me. One other instance comes to mind when one of the leads comes screaming for me in a panic. I was trying to calm her down when she screamed out "I can't go on! I forgot my titties at home..."

SM'd and ran sound/video during a "lecture" from the first female porn actress to receive her PhD.

The first 20 minutes was video footage of her movies dating back to the 70's. During the "lecture" were additional video clips and photos throughout her career, concluding with how to produce and shoot your own "movie". The last 10 minutes consisted of a live version of the "Bosom Ballet".

I'm open-minded, but wasn't briefed about what was going to happen; just given a list of video queues and when they were supposed to occur... This was in a converted church on campus, and there was no booth. We setup the projector and mixer in the 5th row of the audience, and that's where I sat the entire night swapping video tapes. I still get a little twitchy when thinking about it.

My most interesting "other" project I do every year:
to act as production/stage manager to a preliminary pageant called "Miss Spirit of the State."  It's a prelim to the Miss America program and is an open Michigan pageant. (In other words, this is one of the pageants that sends its titleholder to the Miss Mighigan pageant, from which she can compete for the state title and go on to compete at Miss America).

It's one weekend of tech, final dress, opening a show and closing a show all in a matter of a few days...and dealing with scholarship contestants is very different from dealing with performers.  We've taught a few of them to say "Thank you" after we give our calls! :)

It's exciting and stressful and you never know what you're gonna see. But it's a good time...
