I wrote the first song: "Stage Manager is Coming Backstage" to the tune of "Santa Claus is Coming To Town." Published earlier at http://www.showbizradio.net/2008/12/18/stage-manager-is-coming-backstage/

You better learn your lines,
And all of your cues,
He’s in charge of fines,
And collecting your dues:

Stage Manager is coming backstage!

He’s making a list,
He’s checking it twice,
He’s gonna find out
who’s naughty or nice.

Stage Manager is coming backstage!

He sees you when you’re rehearsing,
He knows if you are late.
He knows all of your props and cues,
You want him to be your mate!

So, You better learn your lines,
And all of your cues,
He’s in charge of fines,
and collecting your dues:

Stage Manager is coming backstage.

Check your own props,
Gotta be on time.
Improvise not,
Or the walls he’ll climb.

Stage Manager is coming backstage.

Get your costume on,
You ought not to smoke,
Be quiet please,
As you wait with folk.

Stage Manager is coming backstage.

The folks out in the audience
wanna see a great show.
They’re gonna pay for their seats
out of their very own dough.

Oh….You better watch out,
You better not lie.
You should be ready,
I’m telling you why.

Stage Manager is comin’
Stage Manager is comin’
Stage Manager is comin’
Backstage!

A big hit number early in the 2nd act is " I've got the Bio Box Blues"

We've got two Chriastmas parody songs already, sounds like the show within the show needs to be Christmas Carol, or something else "seasonal."  But is this a comedy or a drama!?

Perhaps something truley awful, like a Christmas Carol meets Nutcracker Christmas extravaganza, with a really whacked-out producer and live penguins.

Yes.

What if it's part improv? Because, afterall, a lot of what we do as stage managers is thinking on our feet, no matter how prepared we try to be!  I think the show should reflect that.

What about a Rocky Horror Show feel with audience interaction: sell bags filled with a mini flashlight, gaff tape, mic tape, bandaids, a highlighter, a mini stop watch...etc. And when a stage manager says their line such as "15 minutes" or something, the audience would response (probably snarky, who knows) with "Thank you, 15" or something...

Oh, I could see the marketability now.....

It could become a cult-type show like the Rocky Horror Picture Show and each year at Christmastime all the stage managers would convene to watch the show...

Which of course means it would have to be a dark night show, on Monday, since so many of us have Christmas shows!

Can you picture the house?  They wouldn't even have to lower the hosue lights; so many of us would probably be in blacks, it would just absorb all the light.
And power outages?  No problem!  The lights go out and suddenly a couple hundred mag lights snap on in the house and illuminate the stage!

Personally, I see SM:The Musical as more of a techie Alice in Wonderland type show... You have your Rabit, the producer, always crying out "I'm Late!" "Too much Money!" etc. The Dutches and Queen are definately lead singers, March Hare and Mad Hatter are your LD and SD, Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum are props and set masters, the flowers as costumers, the Caterpillar as the vocal coach, the king is the director (completely under the thumb of one of the leads), the guineepigs are the chorus... Not quite sure who doormouse (maybe riggers), griffon, Cheshire Cat (ASM?) and turtle (choreographer?) are.

Alice is of course the fresh out of college SM, who was called last minute to take over a production, because the past SM went mad (The cook maybe... more pepper).

Hahah, i love the take on AIW, but that is mostly because I just ended an 8 month tour of Alice and I totally see that.

This thread just completely made my day (Night? Next day?)... It's been a very long week...

Anyways, I really think we could find enough SM's willing to act in it. I know I would!
If this was ever actually pulled off I think I could consider my life to be complete... :)
