Screwdriver Recommendation
« on: Feb 21, 2007, 02:37 pm »
This is really an LD question but since there’s no ldnetwork.org bear with me.

I'm looking to get some good insulated screwdrivers for my light kit.  I've done a bunch of searches but looking at pictures of them on the internet is a lot different than using them in the field.  Does anyone have some success or horror stories from all the LD's out there?

My opinon is that tools should be bought from a hardware shop, as that is the only place you can get a good feel for the build quality.

The best ones that I have seen I have inherited from my father - they were his spare set which he bought about 30 years ago, the sort with the green/yellow clear plastic handles. There are imitations out there, but the good ones are quite expensive (as far as screwdrivers go) and the cheap ones are crud.

Try a Sears hardware section - the company specialises in hardware! How do I - an Australian- know this?  A few years ago I did a gig which involved 4 men living in the windows of the Sears  new flagship store on State St in Chicago. Before we even left home to do the gig the company sent EVERY ONE of us a red metal toolbox FULL OF TOOLS - by AIRMAIL - to our home addresses in Australia (it cost about $150 australian in stamps per box!). And they are great!
here ends the sears commercial.
cheers

I use a Klien tools 10in1. It's not insulated, but it reminds me to be careful and to make sure the line is dead. I can't think of a time when I had to work on anything live.
Seek those with standards and meet them. Exceed them. Move forward. Set the standard.
