Completely off post topic, but I have had an amazing number of actors (I mean actresses) forget to wear panties.

How do you forget?  I really want to know.

Um, not sure if we really want to be pursuing this line of enquiry, but ...

Could either be they weren't wearing any when they got to the theatre, and forgot to put some on, or they had to wear a certain colour or style to match the costume and forgot to bring them.

I'm now wondering if the moderator will split this out into a new thread ?  ::)

(just to reply to the off-topic note - dancers usually don't wear panties under their tights/leotards, often none under their pantyhose due to lines and comfort issues - so when they are trained that way and then do musicals, they might assume no undies are SOP) (altho I did have one senior actor who just didn't like wearing undies and grossed out everyone in the front row, as well as all the crew, nightly - but as that was the least of the issues w her it simply became something we cd actually laugh about.....)

Ok. mods- I think we need to split this convo.

Unfortunately, the circumstances I refer to are not "standard dancer no undies"

In particular, I refer to a recent situation in which the script calls for an actress to lay down with knees splayed as an actor looks at and comments on her "area".  On the day we were first supposed to rehearse this scene, we had to stop and wait for actress to go out her car, into her gym bag and dig out some panties, because she had neglected to wear any that day (in a skirt).

Hm, perhaps we should split this off anyhow.  Not really the same line of thought as the barely suppressed violence of the other thread.

Amazingly enough,    some actors chose NOT to wear any underwear...

We recently finished a production of "Agamemnon,"  where all the actors wear very little clothing (Greek era), and a few of the male actors were self-conscious about anyone in the house seeing their briefs so we had to deal with problems such as "dead bodies" dropping character to tug on their costume to make sure they were covered up.    The biggest issue (which probably only I am so very lucky enough to have experienced */end sarcasm*) was one actor in particular, who decided that he was more comfortable with boxers over briefs, and since boxers were not allowed, eschewed wearing underwear altogether.    Of course, the angle from where my "booth" was (a table with a lightboard next to the house bleachers in a black box) meant that I was the only witness to a very obvious lack of underwear on his part.(s)

Many dancer's don't wear underwear.  It's just one of quirks that exists in theatre.  The real problem is when stagehands start wearing Utilikilts.  I did one show many years back where we had a rigger who was wearing a Kilt with nothing under it.  It was a huge joke and done due to a lost bet but a few people found it less than comical.  Espesially the ground rigger.
Peace,

Really? There is a topic about underwear?

I had to remind a few actors to wear underwear to their costume fitting.

That's all I'm gonna say about that.

I'm currently assistant directing "The Full Monty".  We have just the opposite problem...however, if I open my script and find one more 'g' string there...

When I was working at the college, we had to remind student to wear underwear for costume fittings all the time.  got to the point where the shop foreman just bought a bunch of really ugly underwear to counter the 'I forgot' situation.

During a recent production of "Caberet" we had a young lady who was very forgetful.  We stopped seating folks in the first three rows.
