The Daily Show at Children's Theatre of Charlotte
« on: Aug 22, 2012, 11:02 am »
At Children's Theatre of Charlotte, we've been preparing our spaces for several months to bring in The Daily Show with John Stewart during the Democratic National Convention (ImaginOn houses the children's library as well as our offices, rehearsal spaces and stages). We're at the heart of uptown, so on top of preparing the season we also have to contend with clearances, street and parking garage closings, checkpoints and security.

It's going to be an amazing experience, but I think we'll be glad when it's over!

I should elaborate: they've come with their own crew and are only hiring out our carpenters and electricians, which I could have done but we scheduled rehearsals for a tour at the same time. I did manage to snag two tickets for one of the airings though...and suddenly I'm everyone's best friend.

Jealous. They came to my school for the 2004 elections, and the desk that he used each night is now in a lobby.
Have fun! An opportunity like this doesn't come around so often.

The Daily Show with Jon Stewart is officially out the door. ImaginOn and Children's Theatre of Charlotte got lots of press and the DNC was the biggest thing to hit Charlotte since....well, Hurricane Hugo.

No rest for the wicked though - rehearsals for our season opener, "You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown" start this Monday.

Glad you made it! I'm sure it was an exciting, but very busy time for all involved and nearby.

Sidenote: I remember Hugo... I grew up 2 hours from Charlotte. In the "we're going to go to Charlotte this weekend to actually go shopping" part of NC that is pretty but close to nothing. Must've been pretty big to top that storm! Best of luck with your season!
