I did not actually think that any of my pre-20th century theatre history classes would ever come up in these quizzes, but I'm happy to be wrong!

Sometimes the dimmer for the lights just stop working.  At which point you have to go blow air into them from a can of condensed air and pray.

The theatre I'm at right does the same thing. We have a fan positioned in front of the dimmer rack back stage at all times and if it's not aimed just so, the lights flicker. Sometimes though, the lights decide to surprise us and it's a problem with the architectural controls which are located on the other side of the audience in the booth at the top of a spiral staircase.  There have been several mad dashes around the building once house is open.

The community theatre here does it all the time. While there is an actual stage manager, they are not always there during rehearsals but the run the show during tech as far as making sure everything backstage happens.  Generally the runs are so short that the board operators or designers will run the shows and the directors give notes because they are there every night.

Curiously, my mom recently got into producing at the community theatre level and has taken on a few of the responsibilities that typically go to stage managers (she is at rehearsal every night and helps out the director with communication), in addition to handling money.  For it, she has been commended and requested as a model producer. The system has worked for the past few shows.

Haven't had a chance yet to decorate a booth (and certainly not yet with bottles) but all the stage managers and ASMs who share the production office manage to decorate each year in some way. We have a kinex man and show posters from the year on the celing, a corkboard for any important/fun info to share, a growling SM bear, a scooter, and post it notes everywhere. We also arrange/decorate our shelves however we want. Consequently, some of the objects begin to 'talk' via post its.

Being in college as a stage manager seems to be about the same as high school concerning between show times.  My last show assignment in a busy semester ended a couple of weeks before finals. During the downtime, I focused on homework, hung out with friends and dorm mates that I hadn't seen in awhile, caught up on tv shows, worked my technician job, and did a few projects (having time work on sabre fencing really helped). Now that I'm home before my internship, I mainly catch up with family and friends I haven't seen, enjoy the outdoors and get household stuff done that I won't have time for.  I also try to network and try to explore theatre resources in depth, like this site for example.

I definitely agree with the above though. Having time to be human or a little lazy is nice.
