Not unheard of and let me tell you that those gigs can be interesting. You sometimes end up with questions that you'd only be able to know the answers to if you had been in rehearsal. It's really great when you have a curmudgeon of an LD who expects you to know blocking when you're seeing it for the first time.

Students and Novice Stage Managers / Re: Email signature

Matt's method I think is the best, and I was coming in to post it if he hadn't done so already...

But for me it was always generic AEA Stage Manager blah blah blah, or I'd customize it by show but remove it when needed. I'd leave it for family, but if I was job hunting I'd leave it to AEA Stage Manager. The company I was talking to could figure out what I was doing by my resume.

Reports are pouring in that the coaching staff is on the hot seat and likely to be fired.

Stage Management: Plays & Musicals / Re: Headset Chatter Blog

My blog had to go bye bye once my wife's students found it. Nothing inappropriate or anything just too much extra exposure for her liking. It was just easier taking it down.

I'm really not at liberty to pass anything on about the database. It was a modified database from a colleague of hers and he gave her permission. It's not mine to give. She's easy to reach though if you want to ask her about it.

I know her quite well. If you need to contact her for some reason pm me. I'll see if she'll let me give out her info.

We ran "competitive blogs" while we were on tour together. We both got featured on the Guthrie homepage while we were in residence. It was fun :)

I'm amused that both competitions right now are running at the same score.

loebtmc is onto another reason facebook can be helpful to stage managers....sometimes people post some...shall we say..."not in their best interests" posts on facebook forgetting that people can see it. Like "calling in sick because I was out drinking too much". Silly actors...silly.

Here's what I know: Tumblr frequently is blocked by corporate firewalls. Facebook isn't. therefore facebook>tumblr.

Wow......this is shocking to me. LinkedIn has always seemed completely worthless. Has anyone every gotten anything out of LinkedIn other than a cleaner version of Facebook with less pictures and more boring information?

A well constructed data base that can be used to track everything in a show will always outweigh photoshop for me. I actually found very little use for something like photoshop as an SM. There's (in theory) someone else who is supposed to be doing that stuff anyway.

Well I guess this goes to show how many of us enjoy a good cat video in the rehearsal hall.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FIHZr_FKb5I

.....this hardly seems fair... ;)

True, but how many times do we send out a workbook only to have someone complain they can't open it?

I realize I'm never winning this battle mind you but I find making pdfs invaluable.

I don't understand you whippersnappers and your love for specific word processing programs vs. universal things like WEB BROWSERS and PDFs!

How did I miss this???  Didn't even know it was on.   >:(

I watch enough football that it was impossible to miss. To be fair they've called in for a bunch of stuff so I get a reminder every other day as they're buying expendables.

It would be interesting to see what would happen if NBC did a musical production that hasn't already been made into a movie and how people would react to that.
I think that part of the problem is also the stunt casting, people have a hard time seeing their favorite stars perform live in a different type of role than normal. I would love to see Hugh Jackman or someone else who has a stronger stage background and still enough of a name to draw a crowd.

If they did a musical no one had heard of I think their fear would be a general "meh" from the populace. They did already lose half their audience compared to the Sound of Music which they did expect so it wasn't a shocker.

I don't feel like it was horrible stunt casting. Williams did a decent job IMO and Walken was Walken. Hard to not love him even when he goes up on his lines.
