Could a couple of coats of matt glaze on top of the sticky coat help?

I would love to be involved with the survey, but as a non-US stage manager, it's not meant for me! Is there going to be any change to this policy in the future?

Ha, I've just checked my version.... 3.0.5...... I clearly haven't used QLab on this computer in a while!!

El Capitan (and the SDK) have been available to developers for a good few months now haven't they? I don't get why Figure 53 haven't tested at least QLab 3, and released an update to ensure it is compatible!

There really are some fantastic wigs on Amazon...

By Stage session, I mean anything that happens on the stage that is not a performance. (i.e, not the rehearsal or music rooms). So Stage & Piano, Stage & Orchestra, Piano Dress, General Rehearsal.

Stage Management: Other / Stage Sessions with a PSM and ASMs
« on: Aug 14, 2015, 11:27 am »
Hi all,

So here's a question I've been curious about. I've worked on operas with the SM on book before, but how do you all run stage sessions? Do you, as PSM, get away from the desk whenever you stop so that you can control what happens on stage, where to pick up from, etc? Does your ASM do that? And if you have multiple ASMs, do they take a session each, does 1st ASM always run it?

In my experience, each ASM has taken a session each - if it's not split up beforehand, it gets a little confusing who the correct person to talk to is.

TIA

I have been asked in the past to keep blocking, with the 2nd ASM and PSM doing the same. We amalgamated at the end of each day, checking we were all on the same page. The PSM's train of thought was that it was a big company with a LOT of movement, and a) it would ensure they got the most up-to-date blocking, and allowed us as ASMs to answer blocking questions in the wings if necessary. We worked under the 'everything will get covered by someone' process, rather than separating the company into sections to each track - which worked fine for us.

In the end, I didn't use that much blocking. I knew what was happening, and I didn't refer to it at all once we were onstage. I did find it useful when props tracking, as I had more detailed notes that I have in the past. Since then, I have continued to track blocking when it affects props (or Entrances/Exits), and I believe I'm better because of that.

If I'm cueing others for anything to happen onstage - entrances, set changes, etc.- then I'll keep my score/script on me as well as a running sheet. This is for two reasons. Firstly, it means I can be 100% sure where we are, how long until the cue, and what else is happening around me. Secondly, it allows the performers I'm sending on to check their lines, look at some notes, ask me for some blocking. Most of it is in my head, but I don't like being asked something and not being able to check if I'm not clear.

This is especially true with Supernumeraries. They can often change from one performance to the next, and so they have lots of questions!

Employment / Working in USA
« on: Jul 14, 2015, 01:53 pm »
Hello one and all,

I've been thinking more and more about trying to do a few contracts in the US, to spice things up a bit. However, I'm a British citizen.....

- How much of a barrier would my non-citizen status be?
- Would many companies be up for hiring someone from the UK?
- Could being a UK Equity member be a hindrance or a help in these situations?

I know this is a very broad question, but I'd love some thoughts from you guys before I look at applying for contracts...

TIA,

Chris

Wouldn't it then either upload as an Excel doc, taking away the live editing features, or it will convert to a Google doc, which may well cause a whole host of issues.

And, hypothetically, would you have applied for the job if you had found out about it from another source?

Sounds amazing and bizarre! On a massive tangent, it makes me sad that we'll have to wait another 50 years to get an openly gay President....maybe the UK will be more progressive?!
