The Hardline / Re: SPT SM Overtime Tech Week
« on: Nov 30, 2010, 07:28 am »
I had the same issue come up last week including the producer saying our last PSM didn't ever run into overtime...
It's tech- everyone works more during tech. It's ridiculous if they have tech notes without you. Anyway, everyone gave great advice on this issue. I enjoyed reading the responses.

I had to make the same decision! I felt the need to reply since I went a different route than most of the people who posted before me. I went to community college for 2 years and then transfered to a state school. I was really happy that I didn't go to the conservatory for many reasons. Do what is best for you. I think you've gotten some excellent advice. I really agree with ScooterSM's advice to go to what school is best for you. NMNO also left great questions for you to ask yourself. Go with what you feel is best. :) Hope we have helped you.

Students and Novice Stage Managers / Re: Does this happen alot
« on: Jul 31, 2007, 01:55 am »
It has happened to me once. I was told I had a job then they ended up hiring a friend of the producer who wanted to try
(insert eye roll here) being a stage manager. It was really frusterating and disappointing at the time. I didn't have a contract so I was out of luck. I think Rich gave you good advice. I ended up getting a better job and things worked out for the better. Hope they work out for you as well.

I'm so glad Libby asked about this as I'm looking into buying one for myself. :) I'll have to look into what was suggested.

Hello,

I am working on a few large shows this summer. What do you find is the best way to track props on a prop heavy show? I would like to hear any suggestions as I am still trying to figure out what best way will work for me.

I heard about this on the radio this morning and found the article and thought I'd pass it along.....

College and Graduate Studies / Undergrad schools for SM

Where are you from? I agree with Scoot about looking for a school. Look at programs that would appeal to you. Where would you like to live? Webster is a great school but not many of your credits may transfer it may take you 4 years to complete their program (being a conservatory). It depends on your situation. I started at a community college as well and went to a state school which was a great start but I got the most from my internships. Well, hope your search is successful!
