I always did a curtain call photo from the pro photo shoot in a frame. (But my photo, so I don't have to worry about photo rights.)

You can blow them out then refill them - think gelatin or something similar. it's easy to patch the hole with wax paper and elmers  glue (slather the glue over the wax paper until it's tacky and let dry).

Since when did being in tech mean that the rest of your life stopped and decisions were based on it?

Employment / Re: Transitioning to TV/Film?
« on: Apr 13, 2012, 09:07 pm »
I transitioned into Audio-Video production for an advertising agency - basically production management for commercials and videos. It proved to be an easy transition due to SM skills. I'd go for the day on set since you have the opportunity.

Employment / Re: Civilian Jobs?

When I left, I looked for jobs in advertising, broadcast and event production - all of which mirror SM'ing pretty well. In the end, I ended up getting into advertising and now produce TV commercials, radio commercials, videos and still photo shoots.

I left stage management a few years ago and had to redo my entire resume and cover letter. I'll see if I still have it and PM you.

I love R.E.Load bags - http://www.reloadbags.com/. They are expensive, but they're fully customizable. The material is seriously the best - you can drench it, drag it on the sidewalk, etc and it lives up.

Tools of the Trade / Winter Wonderland set advice
« on: Oct 18, 2010, 11:23 am »
(please feel free to move this post - i'm not sure where it really belongs)

I'm working on getting supplies to create a snow-covered set for a TV commercial and print shoot. We want to use batting, but i'm not sure which kind is the best. We'll use rolls to cover the floor and loose batting to create dimension - then sprinkle glittery stuff on top. Any advice on which thickness or type of batting we should use?

Thanks

I didn't have to do this one personally, but one of me crew members had this for a change:

open fake wall
open back of oven
remove pot full of figurines
insert pot of "melted" figurines
close back of oven
close fake wall
call "clear"

all in about 20sec and all without making any noise with the metal pots against the oven racks.

one night i didn't get a "clear" and couldn't get her to respond on com. she had closed her headset in the wall and was trying with all her might not to let the cast onstage hear her laughing while trying to figure out how to get it back.

I am personally partial to the Telex PH-88.  Its an older ultra-light, but it still works great.  I seem to remember paying around $150 for it, but that was about 8 years ago.  I have no idea what they cost now.

agreed. well worth every penny/

Employment / Re: Listing a reading on your resume

I always listed my Equity readings (esp because they were a season series). I added a tilda (~) to each and referenced that below.
