Self-Promotion / Justin Moore- Country music at it's best!
« on: Jan 30, 2013, 11:50 pm »
I come from a whole different side of stage management. But hopefully I can enlighten people of other things and different places. Tour starts Friday at the Hard Rock in Biloxi. Then off to Naples then back home. It's gonna be a bunch of weekend warrior stuff at first, but I ain't complaining. Just finished rehearsals and I got my set in order. Glad to be going out with the whole thing. Now to just see if this truck pack will work! Best wishes to ya'll hitting the road. I'll keep you up to date on my antics.

Smejs, I would definitely call you a stage manager. I know this site is a lot of people who "Stage manage" according to how it is done in the opera and ballet world. That's a whole different ball game, one of which I am a fool in. I could not call myself one of them. But there is a whole bunch of other areas where stage management has evolved in different industry and in different ways. I've met a lot of great people who manage stages, and very well I might ad. You should definitely keep your eyes peeled on craigslist for stuff to ad to your set. You can find a lot of interesting stuff for dirt cheap and even free!!!I love those screw leg tables BTW, I have two in my living room right now!

Schootch yeah! For touring folk, it's a really great way to get out and experience the local area a little more. Plus, they're usually wooded and in a nice open area, away from all the loading docks, stages, and dark lit rooms!  ;D I'm surprised more people here are not hip to it! I've turned a lot of people onto it on tour. And I keep meeting more and more people from doing it!

Anybody out there disc golf while on the road? I've made it out to some amazing courses throughout the country. Just curious if anyone else gets into that! I've been loving the one here in Nashville, Seven Oaks. Was out there a week or so ago. Was in Huntington Beach, CA in mid Nov at the one out there, got a Disc Golf Style sticker on my computer now! very old school course.

I'm in the concert touring production arena and am proud to say that I am on one of the only crews that I know of where every member is a college graduate. My college experience was amazing and I wouldn't be where I am today without it. I've earned the respect of many, many, many non degree holding people in my field who often times have years of experience that I would die to have been a part of. Now I may not have the years, but I have their respect and a willingness to learn. However, I do have a degree I can always walk away with and helped me get there. I would recommend a degree, it maybe doesn't have to be done and completed right out of high school, but it is well worth it.

I'm working with Strictly FX who is supplying all of the pyro and lasers for Eric Church. It's not a full pyro show, but they do flames, CO2, concussion blasts and lasers all in the show. Looks great. Great people. Very professional. I constantly hear the fire marshall touting about how prepared they are.

Stage Management: Other / Concert Stage Management

Just curious how many folks we have doing Concert Stage Management for bands or artists? What genre/artists/tours are you on right now?

I'm finishing up the Blood, Sweat, and Beers tour with Erice Church. I'm stage manager for Justin Moore, in the direct support slot. I'm building a  6 ft x 24 ft x 3 ft riser set up for this tour. The middle 6x8 is grated aluminum with a 5 step stair case down the front. SetCo Design that i had modded at the beginning of the year. We also carry 4 lighting towers with little Chauvet sharpie wanna-bes and Mac 3k's I think in two of them. The other two have this really neat cheap LED "wall" 3 fixtures wide by 6 tall. I'll have to post some pics. I'm not a lighting guy, far more into audio but pics give the lighting way better justice. Had our lighting show designed by Sooner Routhier. Really killer design, the looks are great!

What are ya'll doing?
