So, later this week, I'm going to the University of North Carolina at Greensboro for a campus tour and an interview with representatives from the theatre department. I am hoping to go to UNCG this fall (application still pending!) and enter in the school's Technical Production program, designed for people going into design and technical theatre and intend to pursue it professionally or in grad school. Stage management is listed in the program description, but other than that there isn't much information about stage management students, which is why I scheduled an interview with people from the program. My plan is to find out as much information as I can about the program and how it will help me in preparing for a career in stage management professionally, post-graduation.
I know that to get into the Technical Production program, I'll have to do an interview this fall and submit a prompt book as a portfolio. I also know that I'll have internship opportunities at the local professional theatre, but I don't know much about requirements to get into the program, what kind of assignments I'll be given for the school's productions through the program, what kind of things I'll need to do for completion of the program, etc.
I've started to compile a list of questions to ask the school's representatives when I speak to them this week, but my mind is starting to draw blanks about what I may want/need to know and ask about. Which is why I'm posting this. What kind of questions would you suggest I ask, and what might I need to find out about the school? Any suggestions/tips/general advice would be greatly appreciated. I really want to get the most I can out of this interview before I set in stone that this is what I will be doing for my education.
