Does anyone have any advice on stage managing in the dance environment? I have a completely theatrical background, and have absolutely no idea what differs from dance to theatre in regards to the stage manager. Also, what exactly does an asm do backstage on a dance show?

Has anyone received any additional information in regards to the "Wicked" internship? Would it be wrong to contact to the SM staff via mail asking about it?

Hi Everyone!

So today I fully committed and sent in my deposit to UNCSA, starting this coming fall as a freshman with a concentration in stage management. Basically, I was just wondering if anyone else on here is an upcoming NCSA Class of 2015 student. Thanks!!

Hi Guys!

Being a current high school senior, I definitely know the feeling of excitement and anxiousness of college QUICKLY approaching. SO, that being said, I was just wondering if any other high school stage managers on here have applied to and/or committed to colleges, and if so, where. Who knows, maybe we will come across future classmates!!

Stage Management: Plays & Musicals / SHOWS: Ragtime! Advice
« on: Jan 11, 2011, 07:56 am »
Hi Guys!

I'm about to start the rehearsal process for Ragtime in about a month, and was wondering if you guys had any advice/precautions from a production you have already worked on. I've heard the WONDERFUL music a countless amount of times, but have yet to see the actual production live on stage. Is the show tech/prop heavy? Lots of scenery? Thanks in advance!! I'm really looking forward to getting started with this one...

Students and Novice Stage Managers / College Questions
« on: Jul 22, 2010, 03:24 pm »
Hi Guys -

Recently I finalized the prospective colleges I would like to apply to by cutting my list down from 15 universities to a simple 3. These schools include: DePaul, Webster, and North Carolina School of the Arts. However, I want to make the best decision possible, and choose the school that best fits the "ideal" school I'm looking for. Recently, I was given the opportunity to exchange emails with current students at these schools, however I've been having trouble compiling questions to ask them. In all, I was wondering if you guys could help me out by providing me with some questions to ask that should not be overlooked when looking for a college. I have the basic, "Whats your opinion on the program", but I'm looking for something more specific to narrow these schools down to the one that best suits me. Thanks in advance!

When I shadowed for "Wicked" I asked to see her book - because I was curious as well for the same reason - and she had a regular script with the lyrics, one line each, and if there was a cue at the end of a lyric or between lyrics, she had "1 2 3 GO" or "1 2 GO" wherever the cue went after the line. She watched each musical numbers, keeping the beat, and she would call the cues that way. It was very basic but very easy to follow.

I hope that gibberish made sense!

I second this. The only thing is, you must maintain a steady beat or else it becomes a disaster.
