The Green Room / Re: What did you learn today?

Today I learned that stage managing 3 shows in the a very narrow time frame is a terrible idea.

So I started using notepad/script to do blocking notes, and I found that I was more aware to what was going onstage than when I was using my labtop.  I've since then stopped using my labtop for any kind of notes and done them on paper instead.

Well I don't know if it's any different for operas, but so far we haven't had to give lines because the cast was required to have their music memorized before blocking rehearsals started.  For me, I type faster than I write, so using the labtop is easier for me.  I only take down blocking when the director has finally made up their mind and runs the blocking for the cast to remember it, (the director is prone to change the blocking a lot when first rehearsing it, so i first watch and wait for the finished blocking to come out, then i notate it).

I know in the past, (before labtops were invented), blocking notation would be done on the script or a notepad.  My SM and I(ASM) have been doing our blocking notes on our labtops and only writing on notepads when we need to make a prop note or anything not related to blocking and I was wondering which is easier/practical: taking notes on paper or typing them out?

I was backstage crew for a production of Bad Boy Nietzsche and while it wasn't extremely controversial, it was as one audience member said after our last show, "Bizarre!"  It was the kind of show that would definitely not be allowed to do in high schools in Texas and it had to be okayed by the director of the school of theatre during final dress for it to be shown to the public.

Right now I'm taking a stage management class along with being the ASM for Susannah but we haven't covered what one does during an opera (most of the other SM/ASM in the class are doing plays) and I need to know what to expect once tech rehearsals start.
