Can you get a video of the conductor?  So when he cuts off you can call the bump cue?

The Green Room / Re: Directors Giving Notes after Opening
« on: Mar 20, 2017, 02:29 pm »
There are no AEA Rules about this.  Actors get notes all the time during the run.

How those notes are given vary - but you went by the most common protocol, giving the note to the SM, who would make sure the note was carried out.

I've worked on AEA shows where the director typed up notes and gave them after every show.

It really varies . . .

I have been contacted on Facebook before . . . it's just one way to get a hold of me . . . I am fine with that.

But it will vary from person to person . . .

Employment / Re: Listing Multiple Seasons on a Resume
« on: Mar 10, 2017, 07:02 am »
I think deviating too far off the norm of resume format reads as being unfamiliar with the industry norms, which is a red flag when I am hiring.  Yes, the list of show credits may get long, but eventually in management you may need to get off the one page resume.

If you feel strongly that the market you are in, you can just list highlights

or

2012/2013 Season  Stage Managers (6 shows)   possible directors here.

or

6 years of North Theater Summer Season, highlights include . . .
then list the shows you like

You can purchase a copy of the Theaterical Index from the Drama Bookstore - should list recent PSM for each show - but although there is sometimes a six month lag in updating.

I still think you need to get consent even for backdoor reference checks.

Employment / Re: Working a Touring Show
« on: Dec 13, 2016, 04:13 am »
Touring shows don't always hire local PA's or even AEA SM's.

Hamilton might as it is the first "leg" of the tour, the best thing to do is reach out to the PSM of the tour.  The show is actually rehearsing in NYC.  (one of my SMs from The Lion King tour currently in SF is joining the SM team).  Even subs / replacement are hired from other places . . . since we have to pay per diem regardless of the city playing as long as we are not in the point of organization.  Just reach out the PSM.

Talk to your business rep.

There are laws in place (Family Leave) which will help you in this situation.

Work with your employer to find the right way to make it happen.

(In my case, we trained someone on the house staff to take over the moment I had to rush the hospital . . . in case it happened during the show)

Maybe easier to reference it in the future . . . .

The Hardline / Re: AEA SM wearing a costume backstage?
« on: Sep 03, 2016, 07:18 pm »
Since we are the same rules as actors, I have always seen once they put us in costume, they put us in costume - which means a AEA dressing room, and supplying everything the AEA member would wear.    If they asking us to bring shoes, then they would have to pay the shoe rental.

It will have to follow all the same laundry rules as an actor.
