If it doesn't have to be EXACT props, you can use google sketch up. Learning to use layers and the slideshow function is very easy.

Florida Atlantic University is near me. It is very good and I think they offer a BFA in theatre. Which may or may not be what your are looking for. But I am certain you can gain design and production experience. As I just posted in another thread, FAU has a locally well know theatre program. Anyone who has seen one of their productions loved it.

Simply a personal preference, I don't like the school. I have never visited the theatre program there, but it just doesn't give me a good feeling. I reside and go to school in Florida. If you are looking for something in Florida that has a good theatre program, look into Florida Atlantic University in Boca. A friend of mine went to a Evita there and said it was damn near professional. And I toured the theatre there, and it is beautiful, and wanted to go there.

I have heard very good things about the theatre program at Elon. One of the new Spring Awakening castmembers is from Elon. (A male, I forget whom exactly.) Is this specifically for Stage Management? Are you looking for hands-on experience or lots of shadowing? Even what type of theatre (Straight Play/ Musical) you enjoy more could help some guide you. Oftentimes here, the more you give, the more you get.

I don't know how technical it gets, but I've heard very good things about Elon Universtiy Theatre. (One of the new Spring Awakening castmembers graduated from Elon)

Stage Management: Plays & Musicals / Re: Tips for Packing?
« on: Jul 16, 2008, 10:37 am »
For me, I travel relatively lightly so I can carry what I bring (I have a slight mistrust of airline baggage systems). This is mostly for vactations, not touring. I usually can fit a week's worth of clothing including bathingsuits and an extra pair of shoes in a duffle  bag. I wear my biggest shoes on the plane (usually my boots). Converse makes a good second pair of shoes because they can fold relatively flat to the sole. Then I have my laptop bag that I usually fit some extra clothes into. Or here a laptop backpack makes a better bag because of more space. And then if I have to check something I have a larger duffle. Pack what you need but pack light. You don't need 6 weeks worth of clothes. 1 week at most and re-use. Oh you might need to check your multitool.

I've taken a liking to Google SketchUp. To my knowledge it's pretty compadible and easy to use while being comprehensive.

Tools of the Trade / Pre-Show Music
« on: Sep 30, 2007, 07:10 pm »
I'm at a smaller theatre and I have been tasked to create some pre-show music. Can anyone point me in the right direction for songs?

We've been doing shows with about 20, with 3-4 possible teachers acting, and 3-4 major student roles. Male/female is pretty much even barring a large group of males/females in the freshman class.

Students and Novice Stage Managers / Show suggestions (for HS)
« on: Jun 26, 2007, 09:50 am »
I am working in HS theatre and we want to get a show done right away next year. It should be a show that the freshmen can handle, but is not a bore to the veterans. Also a good show for a new sponsor/director. A low budget show would be nice. But I haven't the experience to suggest shows.

So, does anyone have any good plays that can be done in a month or two with some newbie actors and possibly director?

How much of it gets eaten, and in what fashion.
Can you shellac the part facing the audience and put a new piece on the place each night or what exactly?

Stage Management: Plays & Musicals / Re: Headset Etiquette
« on: May 15, 2007, 05:34 pm »
While in most theatres the rule is "what is said on the headset, stays on the headset" there usually is someone who will blab to those not on headset. So, my philosophy is never say anything you wouldn't mind saying to their face.

I don't know how different it is, or how much it will help - but here is the film script. http://www.script-o-rama.com/movie_scripts/p/the-producers-script-screenplay.html

If I am doing deckwork or backstage I go for black slacks, black boots, black button down(with about 3 buttons unbuttoned); but if I am in view of the audience(in the booth) I wear the same outfit, with nicer shoes, and a colorful tie.  :) No complaints so far, and a few compliments on my ties!

Stage Management: Other / Talent Show Tips please?
« on: Mar 08, 2007, 04:35 pm »
I have a talent show coming up at high school. I was just seeing if you guys had any ideas or if I missed anything. I am the sound guy, we have a lights guy designing the cyc and we have a crew who knows what needs to be where, when. Anything else, and/or any tips?
