I'm starting an internship at the beginning of May with Theatre Under The Stars in Houston. On Mermaid and Blonde, I'm an ASM, and for Yankee Doodle (My first union show!) I'm a PA. I'm so excited!

Tools of the Trade / The Motion Labs cue light system?
« on: Dec 20, 2011, 03:47 pm »
I've seen the same system used at Memphis, Mamma Mia, Lion King and Phantom of The Opera, but I can't find it on Motion Labs' website. I can find something like it in their "remotes" section, but it was a tabletop panel with switches across the top with a blue "master" button on the bottom... Where can I find this?

So I ask my fellow SMs for advice: How do you think I could make an after-market cue light system? I'm thinking of using those remote controlled outlets along with a coloured nightlight plugged into them, but the distance between my booth and the stage is too far. What do you guys think?
Is there a cheap solution that I'm overlooking?

It was really freaking awesome, and come to find out he hired the SMs at Lion King: LV and Phantom: LV who I'm friends with. It's interesting how my world keeps getting smaller as I shadow more stage managers.

I love my job. I wanted this job. I love my job. I wanted this job. I love my job. I wanted this job.

We open thursday. No Tech? Oh well! I'll make vocal sound effects and we'll run the show off of the HID Worklights... :|

For my highschool's production of Night Of The Living Dead, I opted to be given an e-copy, and was wondering what PDF Annotator would be best for writing down cues on the fly. Thanks!

If it helps, I use a Mac.

I'm a 15 year old who has sadly fallen in love with stage management, I've shadowed the Lion King Las Vegas stage management team 4 times, a SM from Phantom of The Opera Las Vegas, and the touring production of Mamma Mia. My favourite story is either getting to sit in the lobby with Kevin, a SM from the LKLV team, with all the Hyenas waiting for their cue to enter the house, OR, sitting in the booth with the SM from Phantom, and the pyro tech goes "Watch this, Dack," and turns a key, presses a button, and the stage lights up in fire, and he says, "boom, magic."

As a side note, I've taken what I learned at these productions and applied them to how I manage my high school's shows.

A more embarrassing story, I had an espresso before shadowing the SM of Phantom, and consequently, had to go pee about 10 minutes into the show. They had to ask the dance captain to take me down the elevator and show me where the bathroom was. Awkward.
